New Wii Bundle and “Nintendo Selects” Titles Hitting European Shelves 20 May 2011

New Budget Range of Wii Titles and Console Bundle for “Money-Savvy” Gamers

Nintendo Europe announced in a press release this morning that it will be launching a new range of software titles that are “light on the wallet and heavy on fun”. The Nintendo Selects range, launching on 20 May 2011, is a value-for-money selection of popular Wii game titles for all the family to enjoy. The titles included in the range are Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football, and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City.

Furthermore, Nintendo also stated that a new Wii Console bundle is on its way in the form of a new “entry level” Mario Kart Wii package. The console comes with a copy of the game and all the essentials, such as the Wii Wheel, to fully enjoy the game. No pricing information was given, although the statement did also mention that it would be reducing the trade price on the existing Wii Sports Resort pack, and so one could assume that the Mario Kart pack will have a lower price tag than the norm. These bundle deals will also be available from 20 May 2011.

This move by Nintendo seems typical given the recently released information about a confirmed Wii successor to be unveiled at this year’s E3 show. Whether or not we will see any more titles make their way into the Nintendo Selects range remains to be seen.

It also seems odd that Nintendo are releasing Wii Sports as a standalone title. Most consoles were bundled with the software, so a limited amount of stock has probably been produced in order to allow consumers that pick up the Mario Kart bundle to also get in on some bowling or tennis action.

Share your thoughts: Haven’t got a Wii and this bundle sounds enticing to you? Should Nintendo be making more price cuts in order for the Wii to bolster sales?
