L.A. Noire Universe Gets Anthology Treatment

Curl Up with  a Good Book

Two short weeks prior to Rockstar’s impending detective yarn L.A. Noire, and the game’s as-yet-unseen universe is already being expanded upon. True to the spirit of the pulp detective stories that the game draws its inspiration from, a collection of eight short stories, penned by various authors, has been announced.

Although the stories themselves aren’t a re-telling of the game, they are set in the same fictional universe as the game, and will feature some characters, locations, and even cases that will become familiar to players of the game. It sounds like the stories will work just fine by themselves, but will deepen the immersive experience of the game that much more.

The various tales of the anthology, titled L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories, are authored by Megan Abbott, Lawrence Block, Joe Lansdale, Joyce Carol Oates, Francine Prose, Jonathan Santlofer, Duane Swierczynski, and Andrew Vachss. The collection has been announced as an ebook, with a release date set for 6 June; however, certain stories will be made accessible through “various media outlets” just before the game’s launch.

L.A. Noire is hitting shelves on 17 May. Check out this link for a listing of all eight titles, with synopsis and cover art, and to read an excerpt from Megan Abbott’s short story The Girl.

Or one could just head to the library and pick up any James Ellroy book…
