Minecraft Teased for Xperia Play Smartphone

Mobile Construction

Ah, Minecraft: three million copies sold and one freshly squeezed Swedish multimillionaire later, it is arguably indie gaming’s biggest success story yet. Having already distracted students from their studies of Ptolemaic geocentrism and Greek tragedy and working men from important business mergers and mortgage repayments, the sandbox construction-adventure is on the cusp of a mobile revolution.

Sony Ericsson recently teased a nine-second trailer of upcoming Minecraft: Pocket Edition running on their Xperia Play smartphone, a device geared towards mobile gaming. It shows the game in its free-building “creative mode”:

Pocket Edition will release within the coming months before the final “release” version of Minecraft proper is unleashed on 11 November; it will retail at $6.99 on the Android Market.

In February, creator of Minecraft Markus Persson announced that the game would be making its way to iOS devices before the end of the year; the announcement was confirmed in May, but it was added that the Xperia Play would see first release.
