3DS Sales Success for Nintendo After Price Cut

Maybe it Was Just the Price Factor All Along?

Nikkei reported earlier today that the 3DS has sold a whopping 207,000 units in the week of its price cut.  As Andriasang astutely pointed out, the sales figures for the week 8 August through August 14 top that of the console’s second week on the market after it launched earlier this year.

A number of factors have been attributed to the sluggish sales of Nintendo’s 3D portable, one of the key ones being a lack of quality software.  Of course, it is still early days and the next weeks will indicate whether price was truly a barrier.  With release dates for titles such as Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 still vague, we could still witness a drought right up until at least October time.

Sales have also improved in other regions.  The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D jumped from number 39 to 13 in the UK videogame charts, and numerous stores across North America are reporting sellouts.
