New Slimline Wii Announced for Europe

Straight from the floors of Cologne’s Gamescom, Nintendo has announced a new slimline Wii model for its European market; the old model will be discontinued.

The Wii’s new-look console, aerodynamic for maximum thrust and minimal air drag, will lie horizontally; the updated model will release, it seems, exclusively in Europe before Christmas in a bundle pack – the “Family Edition” -, with Wii Sports and Wii Party, and a Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controller.

But woe! The new Wii console, like its upcoming successor, the Wii U, will no longer support GameCube games or controllers. You’ll have to stick to older tech if you want to enjoy the likes of Luigi’s Mansion or Super Smash Bros.: Melee.

We’ll keep you updated with pricing and availability in other regions as soon as we find out.
