3DS Joystick Add-On Confirmed by Nintendo
Play in a More Wieldy Manner…with This Unwieldy Peripheral
French videogame news website 01.net has reported for some time now that Nintendo would be releasing some sort of dongle that introduced a second joystick to the system. Well, MCV is now reporting that Nintendo has indeed confirmed this to be true.
In a press release earlier today, Nintendo stated that:
We can confirm that Nintendo does plan to release the attachment but that any further announcements on the attachment will be made at some later time by Nintendo.
It is important to note that, as well as a second joystick, the add-on will also introduce two extra shoulder buttons. Naturally, this will make the system more in-line with both current home systems and PS Vita. In particular, it would make porting games between the two systems much easier for third-party developers.
As you’ll know doubt notice from the images above, the add-on seemingly increases the depth of the 3DS by a considerable margin. As much as we realise the need to remain impartial when reporting our news, we can’t help but say how ugly this add-on actually is! Hopefully, a 3DS redesign isn’t too far away and GAME or Gamestation will be offering a good trade-in price for them.
Nintendo is holding a conference on 13 September to discuss currently unannounced 3DS products. We predict that this will get a more in-depth unveiling then.
